Brett Favre’s offense racks up 64 points in his first game as offensive coordinator

Maybe Brett Favre really can coach 'em up, too. One game into his tenure as offensive coordinator of Hattiesburg (Miss.) Oak Grove High, Favre's offense is showcasing a penchant for scoring points that is second only to his best gunslinging days with the Packers and Vikings.

As noted by the Hattiesburg American and Jackson Clarion-Ledger, among other outlets, Oak Grove won its first game of the season on Friday night by a stunning score of 64-6. The Warriors took just 44 seconds before reaching the end zone for the first time, and did so in a manner utterly befiting Favre's legacy in the NFL: a deep bomb from quarterback Cameron Myers, who had lined up in the slot, to wide receiver Kelvin Winston, who trotted into the end zone for the first official Oak Grove points of the Brett Favre era.

The offense just kept rolling from there, building up a massive 41-6 lead by halftime and cruising to the eventual, lopsided final score which created a buzz in the Hattiesburg area.

For his part, Oak Grove head coach Nevil Barr, a close friend of Favre's, said he had given the former quarterback full clearance to add in any trick plays or other unique changes to the existing Warriors offense once he signed on as the team's coordinator.

"I trust in my offensive coaches -- unless it's just something that's way out there," Barr told the American. "Brett wanted to run it early in the game and it worked to perfection."

So far so good, with Favre showing that he has just as intense a game face in prep sports as he did in the NFL, as the photo above -- tweeted by the Clarion-Ledger's Keith Leventhal -- is testament to.

If Favre isn't fully engaged in prep football, he's sure doing a heck of a job convincing everyone he is.
