On Sept. 20, Prep Rally brought you footage of a Pee Wee contender to become the next Walter Payton. A week later we know a lot more about the pint-sized power back, with one thing in particular sticking out.
He is absolutely adorable.
America, this is 8-year-old Jayden Scott without a helmet. Scott was chased down near his upstate-New York home by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle after his big run went viral, and the elementary schooler offered up his thoughts on his memorable touchdown, on which he flattened a host of defenders and simply refused to go down.
"The play was called toss-sweep right, and I'm 'posed to run to the right and follow one blocker," Scott told the Rochester newspaper. "But there were no blockers for me. And I broke all the tackles and ran for a touchdown."
Yes you did, Jayden. Yes you did.
Scott and his father opened up in an interview for the newspaper, with the younger Scott looking positively Urkel-ish with a pair of great specs and a fauxhawk. The mighty-mite spoke about playing for the Junior Comets in the Rush-Henrietta youth football league and gave specifics about the play that you see above.
Yet the best moment in the 1:02 clip -- the retrospective play-by-play from Scott's father, Reggie Scott, notwithstanding -- came when Jayden waltzed by the camera at the end of the clip, threw up a Heisman-style stiff-arm and muttered a pretty unintelligible series of snap commands or 8-year-old celebratory screams.
Yup, Jayden Scott is 8 all right. He may have miniature moves like an NFL legend, but he likes to play and joke around just like every other elementary schooler, and that's an awfully comforting thing to know.
