Ridiculous scoop shot buzzer-beater lands teen PG first attention before high school game

If you haven't heard of Cassius Winston yet, you're not alone. The ninth-grade hoops prospect has created a buzz on the preseason elite prep circuit this fall, but he's yet to play a minute of legitimate high school action.

Still, he's already proving that he could be one of the more creative prep hoopsters we've seen in awhile, at least if his first buzzer-beater at a major tournament is any indication.

As you can see in the video above, Winston hit what can only be described as … well, Prep Rally isn't even sure how it can be described. The Michigan-native took his dribble behind-the-back to avoid going out of bounds, then launched an under-handed, scoop shot that started behind his back from a long-stride in front of half court.

That is one wild circus shot. In this case, the points mattered little, with Winston's game at the 2012 Buckeye Prep Elite Showcase in Columbus, Ohio, long since decided. Still, it showcases some of the silky skills and Rajon Rondo-esque freelancing that has caught the eye of plenty of college scouts so far this year.

It's impossible to know if Winston will be able to follow up this bucket with a similar effort during the season. That seems unlikely, given the lax defense he was facing at the tail end of a blowout at a preseason showcase.

Still, now any of those opposing squads will know not to give him any space for a last-second attempt, even if he's going to be forced to launch the ball from behind his back.
