A day after proclaiming that a Southern California Frisbee-style grab was the likely catch of the week, another highlight reel reception emerged from the Midwest, with an Indiana receiver named Austin Albrecht pulling down an early contender for juggling grab of the year.
The play came curing the early season faceoff between Albrecht's Lafayette (Ind) Jeff High and Harrison (Ind.) High. With Lafayette Jeff quarterback Matt Johnson under pressure, the passer somehow found a way to scramble free and buy his receivers enough time to get open.
That's when he launched the ball down the left sideline, hoping that Bronchos receiver Albrecht could run underneath the pass.
He did, but Albrecht then appeared to struggle with nearing footsteps, bobbling the incoming pass multiple times before pulling down a highlight reel grab inside the 5 yard line.
The grab almost certainly would have made a top contender for play of the week … except for the fact that it never counted as a play at all. Rather, the pass was wiped out by a holding play in the backfield, bringing back a huge gain and what might have been the best bobbling grab we see all year.
Then again, maybe Albrecht's catch was just the beginning of something big. The Bronchos went on to win the Hoosiers Crossroads Conference showdown, 28-21, with Albrecht playing a significant role, even if his other catches and downfield blocks weren't quite so spectacular.
