A top high school football prospect in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex has been arrested on suspicion of murder connected with a drive-by shooting in Dallas.
As reported by Dallas network WFAA, South Oak Cliff (Texas) High running back X'Eyrus Dansby, a recent transfer to the school from Fort Worth (Texas) O.D. Wyatt High, was arrested on murder charges after a drive-by shooting in Dallas. The teenager was arrested after being questioned extensively about a drive-by shooting in Pleasant Grove on July 13.
Dansby possesses an array of athletic skills, making him a reported target of the Oregon Ducks according to the ESPN recruiting highlight video that beared his name. Yet he has also had behavioral issues throughout his past, a background which came to haunt Dansby after he and another teenager were involved in the shooting after one of their entourage was allegedly "pistol whipped" during a basketball game.
At 17, Dansby still has plenty of years ahead, but now may never be able to get a full chance to turn his life back around if he is eventually convicted of the allegations that stand against him. According to the Dallas Morning News, the teen is being held on $100,000 bail at Dallas County Jail on murder charges, with no sense that he will be released in the immediate future.
"A lot of times I would try to call him, and I couldn't get in contact with him," South Oak Cliff head football coach Emmett Jones told WFAA. "Certain days it was like he was going down the right road, then all of a sudden, he would disappear for a week."
