That didn't last long.

Roughly a month after a shocking transfer to a basketball powerhouse which plans to close following the 2012 school year, Baltimore prep hoops sensation Aquille Carr has transferred back to his original school, Baltimore (Md.) Patterson High, so he could be closer to his infant daughter Averi, who had come down with an illness.

The news of Carr's second transfer in as many months was first delivered by HoopGroup.com, which spoke with the junior sensation -- who was offered a $650,000 professional contract in Italy while just 16 years old -- about his surprising decision to return to Baltimore so soon after leaving his home city for Elizabeth (N.J.) St. Patrick School.

"I was away from my daughter too long. She had gotten sick so I wanted to come home and take care of her," Carr told Hoop Group. "And I just wanted to spend the first year of her life there, and be there for her.

"I just wanted to come home to feel better…It wasn't a basketball or school issue."

While Carr's motivations are certainly understandable, some might question why he transferred out of Baltimore in the first place given his concerns about his daughter, who was just two weeks old when he first left Baltimore for the school uniforms and New Jersey climes of St. Patrick.

There were widespread rumors in the basketball recruiting community that Carr's transfer was academically motivated, with St. Patrick offering the chance to take care of a handful of credits that would move the player closer to graduation and qualifying for the scholarship to Seton Hall which he has committed to accept, should be qualify for it.

Where Carr will take up that pursuit in the 2012-13 school year remains to be seen. Carr openly said he had no idea where he would play his senior season when asked by Hoop Group, but his desire to be close to his daughter might indeed make the home comforts of Patterson a likely landing spot, even if others have speculated that Carr could wind up at Las Vegas (Nev.) Findlay Prep or Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy for his final high school season.

Then again, in the world of Carr, it's always hard to tell what is coming next. Just ask the folks at St. Patrick, which must be truly puzzled after a stint at the soon-to-close school which Carr himself described as successful.

"They taught me a lot at St. Pat's," Carr told Hoop Group. "They showed me more ways to study and they helped me out a lot in school. I give them a lot of credit."
