The dunk faceoff of the year, a massive grand slam and more InterTubing

Now that we're completely in the throes of the spring sports season, there are plenty of great baseball, lacrosse and softball highlights ... and a few lingering dunk highlights that are too good to be overlooked.

J.P. Tokoto, Menomenee Falls (Wis.) and Shaquille Johnson, Alparetta (Ga.) Milton: All the great slam dunk contests in recent months? Right. Forget about them. This final between North Carolina uber-recruit Tokoto and Johnson, widely acclaimed as the most incredible dunker in the high school ranks, is absolutely too good to be overshadowed by anything else. The whole series of final dunks were completely phenomenal.

Daniel Garner, Madison (Ala.) Sparkman: Holy cow. Did you see that? Not only did Garner, who is a legitimate MLB Draft prospect, launch a game-changing grand slam, his moonshot was so Titanic that it eventually crashed off the high school in the distance. That had to be a good 30 feet or more beyond the fence. Forget about the effect of aluminum bats, with power like that a batter who knock a ball out of the park with anything.

Caitlin Loera, Burbank (Calif.) Burroughs vs. Burbank: What's more gutsy than a dramatic, two-run comeback rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning of a city rivalry game? A dramatic, two-run comeback rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh that is capped by a safety (or suicide, if you prefer) squeeze. Now that is a way to close off a win.

Elliot Pitts, Concord (Calif.) De La Salle vs. Deer Park (Calif.): It's nice to throw down a huge dunk after a point-perfect alley-oop, but it's even more impressive when it comes in the season's most important game, as Pitts proved with this slam in the CIF North Coast Section Div. 1 basketball championship game.

Bear Altemus, North Bethesda (Md.) Georgetown Prep: Not only does Altemus have an incredible name, he has one heck of a talent for scoring tightrope-walking goals around the net, as he proved with this goal against lax archrival Landon.

Sean O'Brien, Bethesda (Md.) Landon School: Well, Altemus couldn't have all the fun. The entire Landon team gets in the act on this impressive, full-field possession which was capped by a spot-perfect shot from O'Brien in the team's annual grudge match against Georgetown Prep.

Joe Karsten, Windsor (Colo.): Tight finishes don't come much closer than this. With 5.4 seconds remaining in a matchup with Boulder (Colo.), Windsor had the ball behind the cage. With seemingly no time to do anything but fire off a quick pass, Windsor somehow strung two quick passes together and then set up Karsten for a timely crank which slipped by the Boulder goalie, who seemed to line up the shot perfectly.

Cheyne Davis, San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine: Davis probably didn't think that such a key goal in CIF San Diego Section Division III boys soccer title would come off a deflection, but it did, thanks to one of the better long throw-ins you'll ever see. And after all, in a title game, you take them as they come.
