In February, Prep Rally reported on Reuben Foster, the nation's number 2 football prospect, and his plans to transfer from LaGrange (Ga.) Troup High after the school's head football coach Charles Flowers was suddenly fired.
At the time, many believed that Foster's threat was a bold negotiating gimmick intended to try and get Flowers reinstated. Now Foster has proven it was hardly an empty threat, as the linebacker has officially transferred to Auburn (Ala.) High and could begin attending classes as early as Thursday.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Michael Carvell spoke with Foster about his decision to transfer to Auburn and whether that might affect his commitment to Alabama, because his new school lies in the shadow of the Crimson Tide's biggest rival.
"I needed to get away from Troup, with all the stuff going on there," Foster told the Journal-Constitution. "There were all kinds of emotions going on about the situation … I feel bad about leaving. But at the same time, it was the best thing to do. I've got to do what is best for me."
As for his landing spot so near Jordan-Hare Stadium? Perhaps surprisingly, he indicated that Nick Saban and co. were absolutely fine with the decision.
"[The Alabama coaches] just told me to do what was best for me and my family," Foster told Carvell. "People think because I'm going to Auburn High School that I'm going to Auburn University. But I'm committed to Alabama, so nobody has to worry about that."
Whether that is still the case come Signing Day 2013 remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: No one will doubt Foster the next time he claims he's going to do something, no matter how rash it might seem.
