A Delaware high school girls basketball coach found himself behind bars after allegedly kissing one of his players who is 10 years younger than himself.
As reported by DelmarvaNow.com and Delaware ABC affiliate WMDT, among other sources, 25-year-old Jordan Thomas was arrested and charged with two counts of offensive touching of a minor in connection with kissing a member of the Lewes (Del.) Cape Henlopen High junior varsity girls basketball team, which he coaches.
According to DelmarvaNow.com, Thomas leaned over and kissed the player twice while driving her home following a team event on February 27. School officials were contacted by the girl's mother, who immediately contacted Delaware State Police. Shortly thereafter, Thomas was arrested.
The junior varsity coach was suspended from all school duties, but has since been released on his own recognizance.
Disturbingly, Thomas is hardly the first Cape Henlopen coach to run afoul of rules regarding inappropriate contact with a student. In April of 2010, the school's former football coach, Thomas Ott, was arrested for rape and subsequently pled guilty to three counts of rape and unlawfully imprisoning a teenager at the school.
Similarly, according to DelmarvaNow.com, former Cape Henlopen wrestling coach Tyrone Gray was arrested twice in the span of four months after being accused of inappropriate sexual contact with two different teenage boys at the school.
There has been no timetable officially set on when Thomas will face the charges against him, at least so far as news media has reported.
