Full court heave is Vermont team’s second buzzer-beating game winner against same foe in 3 days

What's better than watching a team win a game at the buzzer? Watching a team win a game at the buzzer against the same team for the second time in a week … and do so from nearly the full length of the court.

As reported by the Burlington Free Press, that's precisely what happened in Vermont, where U-32 (yes, that's the school's name) knocked off Montpelier 58-55 on Wednesday night thanks to a buzzer beating heave from star Jack Shea. You can see Shea's wonder shot and the delirious crowd reaction in the video directly above.

"It's definitely a shot you aren't expecting to make," Shea told the Free Press' Alex Abrami. "It was a 'you might as well throw it up at the end type of shot.'"

It's a good thing that Shea did throw up the shot, because hitting it maintained an impressive nine-game winning streak for U-32. It also capped what has to be the best day in the still young life of Jack Shea; earlier on Wednesday he was named Gatorade's Vermont boys soccer player of the year.

Incredibly, the team's previous victory also came against Montpelier -- the game was a make-up of a previously weather-cancelled game -- and was also secured by a shot in the final two seconds. On Monday, U-32's Calvin McEathron put up a 15-foot shot with roughly a second left on the clock, turning a one-point deficit into a 49-48 victory.

Did anyone think a similar chapter would unfold two days later? According to Shea, evidently not.

"I think a lot of us were pretty shocked, happening twice in one week," Shea told the Free Press. "It felt pretty good in the air, but I was nervous it was going to hit the ceiling at first."

A shot that almost hits the ceiling but still goes in? Clearly fate was on U-32's side.
