Nebraska teen Joseph Christen hits preposterous, court-length buzzer-beater

It is almost impossible for a buzzer-beater to have come from a longer distance than the one hit in the video below. What may be even more impressive is that the player who connected on the deep, deep three did so with an actual shot, not a baseball-style heave down the court.

The high school star who hit the shot you see in the video above is Anselmo-Merna (Neb.) High senior Joseph Christen, who is among the Coyotes' leading scorers and key players. In this particular game against Arcadia (Neb.) High, Christen pumped in 20 points, keeping his team in the game -- he was the only A-M player to score in double figures -- before the Coyotes eventually capitulated in a 50-47 loss.

Yet, even in a loss, Christen provided the game's most indelible moment with what has to be the shot of the year in the state of Nebraska. With less than a second remaining in the third period, Christen got an inbounds pass after an Arcadia basket, turned and fired a one-legged hurl of a jump shot from 80 feet away. He and his teammates then watched incredulously as the shot arced straight toward the rim and swished through without touching the backboard or rim.

Eighty feet, nothing but net. That's not half bad, eh?

Of course, considering the fact that the Coyotes eventually fell by three points, Christen might have traded two conventional 3-pointers for his one miracle shot, a swap which would have earned his team an overtime berth at least.

Regardless of the loss, at least Christen will have a shot to remember for the rest of his life. Something tells us few who were in attendance will forget it anytime soon, either.
