Forget hat tricks. Sure, three-goal performances are impressive, but they have nothing on what Moose Lake (Minn.) High hockey star Josh Cisar accomplished on Saturday. That's because he scored more than two hat tricks himself in a single game.
As reported by the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, Cisar scored an astounding eight goals in Moose Lake's 13-5 victory against North Branch (Minn.) High. The overwhelming offensive performance was the second best single game scoring effort in state history, behind only a 1948 12-goal game by then-Warroad (Minn.) High player Max Oshie.
Saturday wasn't the first time that Cisar had turned heads with an explosive performance during the 2011-12 season, either. The senior captain has somehow scored 51 goals already, a whopping 17 more than any other player in the state. One of the other players high on the state list is Cisar's younger brother, Tyler.
The elder Cisar has been recruited to play football at Minnesota-Duluth, but his scoring prowess during his senior season has sparked discussion about a future stint in juniors hockey, with the full professional ranks an eventual goal beyond that.
In the meantime, he claims that he's most focused on helping his team win, whether its he, his brother or another teammate who is notching the Moose Lake goals.
"We do score a lot, Tyler and I, but I'm happy to contribute to the team's win," Josh Cisar told the Cloquet Pine Journal earlier in January. "That means working hard every day and every game."
On Saturday, that hard work all came together for those eight goals, giving Cisar the kind of performance he and his teammates aren't likely to forget anytime soon.
