Anyone can play poker against Charlie Sheen at prep fundraiser

Charlie Sheen is a noted fan of baseball, and he's also been known to play a little poker. Why not combine the two to help one of his former schools?

That was the thought that occurred to Santa Monica (Calif.) High, which pitched a spot in its fundraising poker tournament to the vitriolic actor, who once was a part of the Santa Monica program. The idea stuck, and now Sheen will be spending his Saturday night at the rather unlikely location of a Southern California Moose Lodge to try and help raise money for the program's forthcoming 2012 season.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Sheen is just one of a handful of celebrities who are scheduled to participate in the Santa Monica poker tournament, which will also feature multiple unnamed former major leaguers and at least a couple current MLB players.

More tellingly, anyone can show up to enter the tournament, provided they are willing to pay the $85 entry fee. As the Times' Eric Sondheimer notes, that includes TMZ, so long as someone from the network can find a parking spot near the 1600 block of Ocean Park Blvd. in Santa Monica.

Will Sheen's appearance garner the kind of attention the actor was getting all last fall after the combustion of his career admits "Two and a Half Men's" forced hiatus? That seems unlikely, but Santa Monica school officials will be hoping it still brings enough attention and focus to help land plenty more donors interested in a game of poker with the once and former Ricky Vaughn.
