Bryce Treggs is one of the top football receiving prospects in the country. After an incident on Thursday, Cal Berkeley -- to which he has committed -- or any other school at which he decides to play college football might also want to look into enlisting him as an aggressive basketball super fan, too.
As noted by the Los Angeles Times' Eric Sondheimer, Treggs was rooting on his Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco schoolmates at a basketball game between the school and San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) JSerra Catholic High when a game official apparently took offense to something Treggs said. After a moment, the referee marched over to the St. John Bosco student section, pointed out the star receiver and demanded he leave the premises.
It's unknown what precisely Treggs said, but he clearly did something (or someone else near him did something which was mistaken to have been said by Treggs) that infuriated officials so much that they resorted to an almost unheard-of punishment for mere fan support at a prep sporting event.
Obviously, if Treggs had been in possession of an illicit substance or some other banned item, his ejection from the arena would have been a simple matter of due course. For a fan to be ejected for some sort of foul or inappropriate language is another matter altogether.
Treggs is reportedly still considering his collegiate options, despite his commitment to Cal, but know that once his vitriolic hoops support is known he might get some recruiting support from Golden Bears basketball coach Mike Montgomery in addition to football head man Jeff Tedford.
