If there was ever a player who was destined to find success on the basketball court, Julius Foster would be a fitting pick. Yet, to fully appreciate just why that is, you have to know Foster's full name.
Julius Erving Foster. Really.
As reported by the Dallas Morning News, Foster was quite clearly -- though still unofficially, to public knowledge -- named after Dr. J, who is one of the NBA's 50 greatest players of all time. And while the younger Julius Erving who has another name tacked on to the end is yet to achieve anywhere near the honors of his more famous namesake, he is racking up some impressive statistics in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
Most notably, Foster earned the Morning News' first player of the week award for 2012 thanks to a five-game week in which he averaged a whopping 21.6 points per game in his squad's DISD/Coca-Cola tournament run, which ended in the event's championship game just short of an early season tournament title.
Naturally, Foster has a lot more competitive basketball left in him than Erving does, but only time will tell if he can look as stately and classic with steel gray hair. Dr. J has really pulled that trick off nicely.
