Scholarships in hand, middle school football phenom Dylan Moses lands on cover of ESPN The Magazine

If you’ve somehow eluded the avalanche of news covering football phenom Dylan Moses, he’s about to become almost impossible to miss: The middle school wide receiver (or at least he's currently projected as a WR) with scholarship offers from many of the nation’s most prestigious football programs will be on the cover of ESPN the Magazine at a convenience or grocery store near you.

Moses, who has earned national headlines by receiving scholarship offers from Alabama, LSU and Texas (among others) before he has carried a single football at the high school level, is the star attraction of the ESPN “Kids in Sports” issue, which hits newsstands on June 27. The teen phenom got the full ESPN photo shoot treatment and came out smiling for the cover of the mag, which is among the nation’s most read weekly print publications.

The ESPN cover wastes no time (or space) in extolling Moses’ rather prodigious physical gifts. The 15-year-old already stands 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds. He also runs a 4.6 second 40-yard dash and has a 34-inch vertical leap.

It’s far too early to call Moses’ ascension to the top of the recruiting rankings for the Class of 2017 a fait accompli, but Nick Saban, among others, told the future high school student that he was offered a scholarship because Saban thought “he has the potential to be the No. 1 athlete in the nation.”

That despite the fact that he hasn’t played in a competitive football game for more than a year, after he was forced to sit out his eighth grade season after transferring to University Lab from Broadmoore Middle School across town in Baton Rouge.

All of that, and Moses’ ability to fulfill the incredibly optimistic projections for his future, could change dramatically depending on his health over the following four years at Baton Rouge (La.) University School.

If Moses gets all the breaks he and his classmates are surely hoping he encounters, he almost certainly will wind up on more magazine covers in the future, perhaps in four years time when he finally officially signs with a college football program.
