Ole Miss recruit faxed in letter of intent with touching and very confident cover letter

Ole Miss was clearly the story of Signing Day, stunning many onlookers (LeBron among them) by collecting one of the top crops of high school seniors in the nation. The name that got most of the attention on that list was Robert Nkemdiche, the nation’s top recruit and a potential game changer from the first day he sets foot in Oxford, Miss.

Instead, perhaps the player they should have been focused on was a less-heralded quarterback from Texas. Whether or not Devante Kincaid ever truly breaks out in college football will probably take some time to develop, but everyone can rest assured that he will run himself into the ground fighting to get Ole Miss to the next level. We know that because he penned a touching cover letter to fax in to the school with his signing day letter.

As noted by USA Today, Kincaid took the unusual step of writing out a personal cover letter for his faxed signature that officially made him part of Ole Miss’ class of 2013. Evidently he takes that quite seriously, as his cover letter made clear.

“Today is National signing day, and as the quarterback of this class I feel like I have to lead by example,” Kincaid wrote, as released by Twitter user SKYLINErecruit. “Today I commit to lead in practice, on and off the field, in the classroom and in everything I do as a Rebel.

"I will give my best at all times as a student and as the quarterback by studying the playbook, executing the offense and doing all I can to get us to Atlanta and securing the National Championship. …

“I am an Ole Miss Rebel, and by the grace of God, I can do all things through him who gives me the strength! Mr. Switchblade DPK let us go to work!”

That is one excited recruit! Clearly, a goal of a national championship off the bat is an awfully lofty aspiration, but you can only admire Kincaid for his confidence in his own ability and commitment to his new school.

If nothing else, he’s surely won fans among the Rebels faithful by proving that he’s the most committed member of their new class, even if he’s certainly not the most high profile.
