A lot of bad things have happened to the good people of Newtown, Conn. in the past two months. On Tuesday, a more heartwarming event happened in town: The Newtown High boys basketball team drilled a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win its last home game on Senior Night.

As reported by USA Today, ESPN and a handful of other media outlets, Newtown senior Mike Daubert connected on a long-range triple as time expired, handing Newtown a hard-fought 57-55 victory against New Milford (Ct.) High.

The win capped the Nighthawks' season home slate, and helped bring goodwill in a local sporting event two days after a collection of 26 Newtown students sung America the Beautiful at the Super Bowl.

Naturally, nothing can truly make up for the horrific event that occurred in Newtown in December. Still, sports have played a significant role in the town's emotional healing process, as documented in a January blog from the Oklahoman. The Newtown boys basketball coach, Tim Tallcouch, emailed Oklahoman sports columnist Jenni Carlson to tell her about just how big a difference a recent in-town appearance from the New York Knicks had made.

"Between myself, the town of Newtown and the NY Knicks organization, the Knicks Garden of Dreams Foundation, player, coaches, executives and dancers came to Newtown CT yesterday and put many smiles on the faces of the Sandy Hook Elementary kids with two hours of a fun clinic/event," Tallcouch emailed Carlson. "Simply AMAZING!!!

“It really does make a difference!!”

Now Tallcouch's own team has helped make a difference with a pretty magical finale of their own.
