Chicago-area senior buries miracle game-winner from beyond halfcourt

Lincoln-Way North (Frankfort, Ill.) High boys basketball coach Jon Terry didn't even call the play for senior guard Denton Wallace. In fact, Terry was just hoping either point guard Tre Lewis would get fouled or their game against SouthWest Suburban Red Conference rival Amos Alonzo Stagg (Palos Hills, Ill.) would go into overtime.

But Wallace and teammate Ryan Pellack had a different plan in mind for the final two seconds of their game on Friday night. Maybe because the two had connected in a similar situation during their sophomore season, according to the Southtown Star report.

So Pellack tossed the inbounds pass behind halfcourt to Wallace, who promptly heaved the ball 60 feet and banked it off the backboard for a 66-63 victory, sending Phoenix fans storming to the court to mob their hometown hero.

“Our sophomore year he gave me the ball in almost the same situation,” Wallace told the paper in the aftermath. “I hit a game-winner that night, too.”

The 3-pointer was the sixth of the game for Wallace, who scored a game-high 20 points. Interestingly, Pellack hit the game-tying shot from beyond the arc with 57.2 seconds left.

Afterwards, Wallace took to Twitter, where he received a ton of love on his feed.
