Former USC WR commit blasts “dishonesty of college football”

Sebastian LaRue is one of the top wide receiver prospects in the nation, a four star senior athlete with speed and incredible agility and athleticism. The Santa Monica (Cal.) High superstar had committed to USC, a fait accompli for many top California prospects. Then he had a change of heart after watching USC refuse to grant East Redlands (Cal.) High senior Kyle Fitts an early enrollment scholarship.

By the time then-Oregon coach Chip Kelly defected for the Philadelphia Eagles, LaRue had enough of college football’s recruiting culture altogether.

"This recruiting process has showed me the dishonesty of college football at its finest,” LaRue tweeted shortly after Kelly left for Philadelphia.

As it turns out, LaRue had clearly been nearing a breaking point with college football altogether. While the Under Armour All-American clearly still intends to compete at the next level, there is no telling where he’ll end up. From the sound of things, if one coach came across as particularly sincere that might even be enough to sway Sebastian.

In the meantime, LaRue told the Los Angeles Times that he has come to the realization that the only way to handle the overwhelming uncertainty and dishonesty of recruiting is to look out for oneself … and no one else.

"I feel some things should be more up front," LaRue told the Times. "It's like a poker game. Everybody is trying to match everyone's move and bluff.

"You have to trust and believe in yourself and look out for yourself."
