The many glorious calls of an overzealous high school basketball announcer

Pair a couple high-flying Hillsboro (Nashville, Tenn.) High basketball standouts and an overzealous announcer, and what do you get? A lesson in broadcasting magic.

This first video is probably my favorite, but don't worry, there's many more to follow. With his team leading 39-34 against Franklin (Tenn.), Hillsboro's Micah Phillips throws down a dunk and gets fouled in transition. We'll let the broadcaster explain.

"Ohhh. Ahhh. Ohhhhhhhh. Man down. Man down. We can't deal. I just don't know what's going on. I just don't know what's going on. I just don't know what's going on. That dunk was so crucial. That dunk was crucial. I just don't know. And one. Give it to him. Franklin calls a timeout. Well, not a timeout; someone checks in."

A few things to enjoy from that call: The repetition of "I just don't know what's going on" three times, and then the realization that he actually doesn't know what's going on in regards to whether a timeout was called or not. And just how crucial was that dunk? Hillsboro went on to defeat Franklin, 60-50.

The broadcaster doesn't disappoint in the following highlights courtesy of Phillips' Hillsboro teammate Jamontae Davis, a Tennessee State commit.

"He hit the shot. JD hits the shot. Ohhhhhhh. Ohhh. JD made the shot. He hits the shot with 1.9 seconds left to go, ladies and gentlemen. Oh my God. There's something special about that kid. There's something special about that kid, I'll tell ya. there's something special about the kid. There's something special about that kid, man, I'll tell ya."

Is it just me, or did the announcer go 10 times more bananas on Phillips' fast break dunk than he did for Davis' dunk? This was another great call, but I was expecting him to go about a few thousand decibels higher. At least he kept his tradition of repeating the same line four times alive.

"Wooooooo, nasty. If that wasn't nasty, then I don't know what nasty is."

Enough said. Perfect call. Can't do much better than that.

"Oh, my God. Oh, Lord have mercy. Jamontae Davis with the sickest dunk I've ever seen tonight."

I enjoyed how this was the sickest dunk the announcer has seen "tonight." Not ever. Just tonight.
