So far in the 2012 season, Carneys Point (N.J.) Penns Grove High's football team boasts a perfect 10-0 record. The Red Devils have steamrolled all opponents and show no signs of slowing down with a maximum of two additional games to come. In the process, the team has scored an incredible 538 points while also compiling seven consecutive shutouts on defense.
Still, neither the team's points total nor its stout defensive stands are the mark of the team's most incredible statistic. That's because this is the team's most impressive stat: The Devils have punted just five times all season.
Just think about that for a second. In the course of a 10-game campaign, a New Jersey team has punted just five times. That's just one punt every other game.
A majority of teams punt close to five times or more in a single game. That's far from the case with Penns Grove, which features an explosive offense that goes hand-in-hand with the lack of punts. Essentially, the Devils are too busy scoring points to punt the ball.
As noted by Philly.com, Penns Grove is just 61 points behind the state's all-time scoring record, with two games to potentially close that gap. Considering the fact that the Red Devils have outscored their prior seven foes by a combined 392-0, there's no reason to think they would be slowed from achieving that landmark.
Even if they do, some keen statisticians may be keeping a closer watch on the team's punter. The longer he stays on the sideline, the more incredible Penns Grove's offensive efficiency becomes.
