On Friday, Woodruff (S.C.) High quarterback Brian Bailey recorded a career game, passing for a remarkable 597 yards and eight touchdowns. As it turns out, it'll have to be his career game, because he won't have any more games; despite the nearly 600 yards passing, Woodruff fell to Belton-Honea Path (S.C.) High, 63-56, in the first round of the South Carolina Class 3A state playoffs.

In what has to be one of the more impressive single-handed losing performances on record, Bailey helped three Woodruff receivers accumulate more than 100 yards each. Incredibly, he did all that while also sitting out a couple of drives because of an injury. One, Brandon Bone, had five touchdowns and 199 yards.

As reported by the Anderson Independent Mail, the two teams combined for a whopping 1,248 yards of total offense in a game that was closed to a seven-point game with a final onsides kick attempt that fell into Belton-Honea Path hands.

"We got a working margin and were lucky enough to be up two scores," BHP coach Russell Blackston told the Independent Mail.

They needed that margin because of Bailey. For his final act of his season, the Woodruff quarterback completed an 83-yard touchdown pass to with just 21 seconds remaining, a final flourish which created the game's final score.

In the end, it wasn't quite enough for a win, leaving Bailey with the rather unique circumstance of passing for nearly 600 yards in a single game and still not coming home with a win.
