You saw the Giants take Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday night, with San Francisco -- and Pablo Sandoval, more specifically -- getting to Detroit ace Justin Verlander. Can you imagine Sandoval knocking three homers off the veritable vision of garden intensity you see below?
You probably can, because that man is Verlander, at least in high school form. His high school portrait is just one of a handful of unforgettable faces in their younger, formative years, as compiled by the fine folks at USA Today. Looking for Buster Posey as a homecoming king? Here you go.
How about Tigers outfielder Quintin Berry maxing in his letterman's jacket from San Diego (Calif.) Morse High? Yup, got that one, too.
Of course to top it off, one can't compile a retrospective World Series gallery without the already burgeoning waist line of Prince Fielder. It's also worth noting that the younger Fielder batted an incredible .524 as a senior at Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie High.
There's plenty more awkward or impressive teen shots to gawk at right here, so it's worth a click. Just make sure to take note of the stats on the bottom of a number of the photos, or else you might miss which current outfielder once struck out 20 batters in a seven-inning game.
