A high school football playoff game in Louisiana featured one of the more remarkable offensive drives in recent years, if not all time. On Friday, Carencro (La.) High ate up 14:52 on a single, 76-yard touchdown drive.
As reported by the Shreveport Times and Acadiana Independent Weekly, among other sources, Carencro monopolized the second half of the school's 34-21, Class 5A state semifinal victory against Byrd (La.) High with a 28-play touchdown drive that lasted longer than an entire quarter. The Bears received the the ball at their own 24 early in the third quarter, then methodically marched down the field on nothing but running plays, eventually reaching the end zone with just 5:23 remaining in the game.
"I knew we had a long drive. I didn't think it was that long," Carencro coach Brent Indest told the Times. "Byrd played their tails off. We were bigger than they were. We knew we could shove them around a little bit. They played with as much confidence as I've seen. They were undefeated for a reason."

Almost by necessity, Carencro was immaculate on third and fourth downs. The Bears converted an incredible seven third downs and three fourth downs over the course of the game, in which Carencro finished with an amazing 33:17 to 14:43 advantage in time of possession. Yes, a single Carencro possession lasted longer than Byrd had the ball over the course of the entire game.
And, as always seems to be the case, the biggest assist on the team's remarkable drive came from the overaggressive defense, with Byrd flagged for roughing the kicker.
That flag came on a fourth-and-18 from Byrd's 43-yard line, keeping Carencro's drive alive. Little did Byrd know that the penalty would all but seal the end of the team's season. And if there was any question that the epic drive would be the end, Carencro's Jalen Nixon took care of that, pushing forward for his fourth score of the game, part of a punishing 259-yard performance.
Those stats will likely live on in Carencro memories for some time, though they'll have a hard time overshadowing one of the longest drives anyone could possibly remember.
