Aaron Baltazar is a promising senior running back for Chula Vista (Calif.) Eastlake High. He's an athletic and elusive back who projects as a potential college star at Boise State, where he has committed, perhaps as soon as fall 2013.
According to athletic.net, Baltazar spends the spring as a member of the Eastlake track team, where he runs the 200-meter and 100-meter relay event and also participates in the high jump. After what fans saw on Friday night, Baltazar may want to branch out into hurdles come springtime, because he has one heck of a hurdling talent.
As you can see in the video above, Baltazar decided to go airborne over a defender rather than attempt to slip around a defender for San Diego (Calif.) St. Augustine High. The result was what has to be the most athletic 3-yard game in the Golden State this year. Baltazar's hudling motion was absolutely orthodox for a sprinter, and he cleared a defender who was at least three-and-a-half feet high, which is higher than the standard height for high school hurdles in actual competition (39 inches).
Given his agility and the ease with which Baltazar reacted to the defender in front of him, it seems as though he had little trepidation about the impediment in front of him at all. All leaps and sprints aside, the senior couldn't earn Eastlake a win -- St. Augustine eventually emerged victorious, 42-28 -- but he did give all of the school's future opponents plenty to think about.
He also almost certainly marked a new move in his repertoire. Whether or not he brings it out again is anyone's guess, but one can be sure that Boise fans are excited with the sheer possibility of such a leap in a Big East game come 2013.
